The idea back in 1993 was simply to have some fun and perhaps a little madness on a Summer Sunday. This initial idea materialized as a one-day event, held on the streets of Waterford city. It was so successful that the idea grew; perhaps it could become an annual summer festival in Waterford? Thus began it all. And what has since developed is one of Ireland leading arts company's; Spraoi. Now, with over sixteen years work in the area of spectacle, outdoor theatre, event management and festival production, Spraoi has amassed a vast wealth of specialist skills and experience.
Held over the August Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland, the Spraoi Festival is an annual riot of colour, energy and excitement with an atmosphere that is unique among Irish festivals. It takes over city centre areas of Waterford for three days, transforming the streets and quays of the city into a giant stage for acts from all over the world. Spraoi is committed to the advancement of street arts, and the festival produces, premieres and showcases some of the best in the world. The festival is also a platform for top quality world music. And it's all free!
Spraoi will host a four day long event based in and around the People’s Park in Waterford city. This wonderful public park, located at the junction of William Street and the Park Road offers a sylvan refuge to the visitor and citizen alike. The 19th century Park has leisurely paths to walk, relaxing seating areas and plenty of greens areas in which to wander. And it will come alive with new sights and sounds from July 2nd
